Funding may be available to assist with travel costs for those conducting or presenting research abroad




Travel Grants for Faculty

  • International Affairs Travel Funds

    International Programs sponsors faculty travel for research abroad and for presenting a paper at an international conference. The grants of up to $1000 are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis to tenured and tenure-track faculty.

  • South, Southeast & East Asia Fund

    The South, Southeast and East Asia Fund supports international travel for individual or collaborative faculty research projects or the development of institutional exchanges, partnerships and academic collaborations between KU and counterparts at selected post-secondary institutions in Asia.

  • International Travel Fund for Humanistic Research

    The International Travel Fund for Humanistic Research supports international travel expenses for faculty pursuing humanistic research abroad. The fund prioritizes interdisciplinary projects that grow KU research, expand research impact, further student success, or promote healthy and vibrant communities.

  • Latin America Fund

    The Latin America Fund supports international travel for individual or collaborative faculty research projects or the development of institutional exchanges, partnerships and academic collaborations between KU and counterparts at selected post-secondary institutions in Latin America.

  • Strategic Partnership Seed Fund

    Strategic Partnership Seed Fund strengthens long‑standing relationships with KU’s principal international partners by supporting faculty and administrative leaders in launching and advancing collaborative work with designated Strategic Partner Universities (SPUs). Proposals for Seed Funding should describe activities that will have a catalytic effect where KU scholars and their counterparts abroad are able to identify shared strengths, build sustainable research teams, and develop high‑quality projects that advance institutional research priorities and position collaborators for future external funding.




Travel Grants for Graduate Students

  • International Enhancement Grant

    A small number of grants of up to $1,000 will be funded on a competitive basis for graduate students seeking support to pursue relevant semester or summer-long internationally-focused academic or training opportunities in Latin America that will enhance their degree programs at KU.

  • Pre-Dissertation Travel Grant

    Support six- to eight-week trips for preliminary dissertation field activities taking place in Latin America, such as exploring potential research sites, archives and other research resources; establishing institutional affiliations; and identifying and meeting with local scholars and contacts.

Grants are awarded based on the quality of proposals as evaluated against the review criteria. This program neither collects nor considers information about applicants' legally protected identities, and grants are awarded without regard for race, color, ethnicity, religion, sex, national origin, age, ancestry, disability, status as a veteran, sexual orientation, marital status, parental status, gender identity, gender expression, and genetic information.

2026 Travel Grant Recipients

In 2026, KUIA awarded nearly $75,000 in travel grants to 31 University of Kansas faculty members and four graduate students to support research and collaboration abroad.

In 2025, KUIA awarded more than $72,000 in travel grants to 28 University of Kansas faculty members and six graduate students to support research and collaboration abroad.
