Biography —
Camille Debreczeny (deh-bret-zeh-nee) joined KUIA as an executive assistant in 2024. She provides administrative support to KUIA staff and acts as a liaison on behalf of the office to individuals and organizations inside and outside the university.
Camille is thrilled to be in a role that feeds her love of learning and her passion for global connections. During her time as the lead organizer of Justice Matters, a local affiliate of the Direct Action & Research Training Center, Camille participated in an exchange program sponsored by the U.S. State Department that allowed her to mentor social change makers from Eastern Europe and visit them in their home countries. She studied abroad as an undergraduate student at Rhodes University in Makhanda, South Africa.
A 2.5-generation American, Camille is the proud daughter and granddaughter of Vietnamese and Hungarian refugees. She loves living in Lawrence and is involved in several community projects, including serving on the board of directors of the Douglas County Community Bail Fund and volunteering regularly at the Lawrence Fruit Tree Project's community orchard.
Camille holds a bachelor's degree in sociology with an American ethnic studies minor from Willamette University and a master's degree in social work, policy and practice from the University of Chicago.
