Title: The Kansas Frontier: One Immigrant’s Story
Abstract: My research began as an effort to catalog a previously undocumented archeological site in Jefferson County, KS. It has evolved into an ethnography, a family history, and a historical analysis of a single Kansas farm. A German family, who immigrated in the late 1800s, purchased and settled the farm. Illustrating what life was like on the frontier for one immigrant family helps illuminate this time in our national and international history, and this site also offers a wealth of archeological data to document today.
