Atlas Series

LAWRENCE — This fall, International Support Services is launching the Atlas Series, biweekly programs that will encourage international and domestic students to share their culture and build community at KU.

The series will be held every two weeks throughout the fall semester from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays in the West Reading Room on the third floor of Watson Library. Each event will focus on a different country, allowing citizens of that country to talk about their history, culture, daily life, traditions, food and more.

Hosted in partnership with international students, student clubs and other KU departments, these events are open to KU students, scholars, staff and families. The series is a successor of the International Coffee Hour programs that ISS hosted prior to COVID-19.

The series kicked off Aug. 29 with a presentation on India. Representatives from the Association of Indian Students spoke to a crowd of more than 100 about the country’s life and culture. Members of the South Asian Dance Club performed a traditional dance routine, and ISS served Indian food, including samosas, the dessert gulab jamun and the refreshing drink rooh afza.

The countries featured in upcoming presentations include:

  • USA in a Day: Sept. 12
  • Mexico: Sept. 26
  • Peru: Oct. 10
  • Germany: Oct. 24
  • Japan: Nov. 7
  • Pakistan: Nov 21.

Follow ISS on Instagram for updated information about these upcoming events or visit its website.
