Meet the Interns: KU students to share lessons from internships abroad
KU students can learn how international internships strengthen resumes and prepare them for global careers during a program from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Sept. 29 in 2048 Malott Hall. Attendees will hear firsthand accounts from Center for Global and International Studies students Kaitlyn Carson, who interned with the President Kaljulaid Foundation in Tallinn, Estonia, Catie Borchardt, who taught English in classrooms in South Korea, and Alexa Olmos, who completed an internship with Powell Spencer & Partners in London, England.

Jason Foster, program coordinator of international internships for KU Study Abroad & Global Engagement, will also present on current global internship programs available to KU students and funding available to support them.
Foster said that students seeking both an internship and a study abroad experience before they graduate can accomplish both through the program.
Through the Study Aboard Internship Program, partner organizations handle much of the work of identifying and matching students to internship opportunities. Placements are personalized and available to all majors.
βIt's a great way to grow your professional network globally, that would be really difficult to come by on your own.β said Foster, βI think that's one of the best advantages is that it allows you to get plugged in and connected to resources and networks outside of this country that you would otherwise not be able to find.β
The event is part of the International Career Series, a campus-wide initiative that prepares students for international and globally focused careers. Opportunities throughout the series range from career exploration and networking to internships, scholarships and fellowships, helping students prepare for opportunities at home or abroad.
It is sponsored by 14 internationally-focused units at KU, including the Center for East Asian Studies, Center for Global & International Studies, Center for Latin American & Caribbean Studies, Center for Russian, East European & Eurasian Studies, Kansas African Studies Center, Global Awareness Program, Center for Undergraduate Research & Fellowships, University Career Center, Study Abroad & Global Engagement, Global Business Studies, School of Business, International Support Services, KU Honors Program, KU International Affairs and the African & African-American Studies department.
