KU's Center Latin American and Caribbean Studies set to host visiting scholar, Catalina Fara.

LAWRENCE — The Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS) will be hosting an upcoming talk with visiting scholar Catalina Fara to discuss how 20th‑century images of Buenos Aires—across photography, print media, painting and film—shaped the way people understood and experienced the city as it rapidly modernized.

The talk is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 13, at 3:30 p.m. in Bailey Hall, Room 318.

She will analyze the urban experiences of Buenos Aires between 1910 and 1936 and the effect of the city’s rapid expansion. Current images in circulation leave room for interpretation, with visual culture and spatial practices intersecting, calling for an in-depth study of the relationship between the producers and their environment. Alongside the analysis of these images, she will seek to reconstruct the experience of modernity in Buenos Aires.

Fara is affiliated with the Center for Research in Art and Heritage (CIAP) at Argentina's National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET) and the School of Art and Heritage at the National University of San Martín (UNSAM), Argentina.
