Mentor: Ms. Lena Roesner

My research is on language maintenance in the South Asian community within Johnson County, Kansas. Language maintenance is a linguistic and social phenomenon that impacts immigrant communities globally. Individuals and communities have unique experiences with how they maintain native languages because of the vast and multifaceted factors involved in the process. By closely examining how one particular immigrant community has maintained its native language(s), we can determine which factors are acting most strongly and are, thus, most important for these language(s) to survive in the community.
